DSL Self-Install Requirements
User Requirements
- Be able to install filters on existing telephone jacks
- Either have or be able to install an Ethernet card (for non-USB modems) in a
spare PCI slot in a desktop PC. (Note: Laptop computers must already
have an ethernet card installed or an avaialable USB port.)
- Set up and configure software for new hardware components
- Set up and configure browser for new DSL serivce
Phone Line Requirements
- There must not be more than 6 devices (phone, answering machine, fax)
connected to the phone line on which the DSL is on.
- You must have tone dialing. Pulse dialing is not supported.
- You must not have any of the followin services installed over your
phone line: Actively monitored burgler alarm, keyless entry, home
health system, or remote water metering. These services can interfere
with DSL.
Minimum Computer Requirements
PC
- Pentium 166+
- Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP
- Internet Browser (IE or Netscape)
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
- 32MB of RAM
Macintosh
- Power PC Macintosh computer, G3, G4 or iMac
- Mac OS version 8.0 through 9.1
- Internet browser (for example, Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer)
- CD-ROM or DVD drive
- Open Transport 1.2 through 2.6 (networking software from Apple)
- 65 MB of free disk space (if you install the customized browser) or 25 MB of free disk space (if you already have a browser)
- 32 MB of RAM (64 MB RAM for O/S 9.0 & 9.1)
