Iserv Helps Customers Free Up Phone Lines, Increase Speed with v.92 Modems
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – June 8, 2004 – Iserv announced today a discount program to provide simultaneous on-line dial-up service and telephone service.
The Iserv Co. (www.iserv.net), one of the largest independent ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in Michigan, was one of the first ISP’s in the region to develop v.92 capabilities and is now able to provide dial-up customers access to discount v.92 modems.
A v.92 modem, also called a “Modem on Hold,” allows users with call waiting on their phone service to receive incoming calls and still stay connected to the Internet. It also works in reverse; users with three-way calling can make phone calls while connected to the Internet and keep the modem connection live.
The v.92 modem is also faster than older modems due to improved compression technology, which increases web browsing by as much as 50 percent. The v.92’s Quick Connect feature shortens the average connect time to as low as 9 seconds versus traditional modems, which take 21 seconds or more to connect.

“The v.92 modem allows dial-up customers to surf the web and retain the use of their phone line,” said Victor Shepherd, chief executive officer of Iserv. “Dial-up modems remain a popular and important way to connect to the Internet and Iserv is committed to providing dial-up customers the best technology to maximize their Internet experience.”
